I've been using Avodart for 8 months to prevent male pattern baldness at the standard dose of 0.5 mg a day. It has been effective in maintaining my hair; I have had no further loss. The concerns are the effects of suppressing DHT. Unfortunately, it can reduce semen volume, sperm count and prostate volume, all by around 25%. I did have some mild testicular pain for a few days to a week at the start of treatment, as my testosterone was up-regulating. It can increase testosterone levels by about 20%. I have some pain in my right breast when I press down on it, but it could be unrelated. One thing I am certain of is a less satisfying orgasm, and this must be due to the atrophic effects on the prostate. So far, I'm reluctantly choosing to stick to it, it's tolerable, but it sucks that I have to take medication to keep my hair. Such is life.

Take one pill daily in the morning. Seldom skipped dosage.

0.5mg taken 5 x per week in the morning. Started taking avodart but then moved onto generic ('Dutas') with no change in effectiveness.

69 year old only been on 1 month: too soon to judge effectiveness or side effects but have developed a moderate rash with itching on my back. Hoping it will go away, before other nightmare side effects I reading about occur.

I was satisfied that the urinary pressure has subsided. But the potentail side effects are making me question the drug. No semen, loss of sexual desire, loss of penis girth and length. I notice others have had similar experiences. Is there a way to get a response to my condition, or a generic response to their question/posting/ observations ?

User for 24 months. PSA went down from 10.11 to 1.75. Prostate much smaller. Do have prostate stones. Semen flow reduced but functional. Erections need Viagara. Urination problems cured about 90%. Would recommend use.

when i first started to use avodart,two years ago my PSA was 21 today it's down to 6.8 no known side effects

After 1 year of use, I am back to normal with no uncontrolled frequent urination..Only go once or not at all during the night.I am still taking med. until I consult the Dr.

Taking this medication as well as Flomax. Don't know which one is helping, maybe the combination, but PSA is down and urination BPH symptoms are vastly improved. All this in only two months.

In the beginning I have problem like other people report (ejaculation, sex drive and erection), but after starting watching xxx movies with my wife, as recommended by my sex doctor, my libido improved a lot, and actually I have no problem with ejaculation and erections. I make sex 2 times a week. And the pill work very good for me,the urinary pressure has subsided, the only side effects is ringing in my ears.
