Diamox, Pseudotumor, and Migraine Disease After several failed Migraine preventive medication trials, my doctor suggested a lumbar puncture to rule out pseudotumor cerebri, aka idiopathic intracranial hypertension. At the time, I was averaging five days a week totally debilitated by Migraine attacks, but could only identify the triggers about 50% of the time, and was experiencing tinnitus during the attacks for which I couldn't identify a trigger. The LP confirmed that I did have PST. My doctor drew off enough cerebrospinal fluid to get my pressure into normal range. I immediately experienced a 50% decrease in the frequency of my Migraines, could identify triggers almost all the time, had no more tinnitus during Migraine attacks. That's when I began taking the Diamox. Because it's been successful in keeping my cerebrospinal fluid pressure low, preventive meds are now working for me, and I am experiencing only two or three quite manageable Migraines per month.
Acetazolamid for Undiagnosed Headache Two weeks ago I started Acetazolamid 250 mg. 2x daily for undiagnosed severe headache. So far it's the only medication that helped ~ much better than Vicodin 4X/day, Percocet 2X/day, or even shots of Tornadol.

After the third dose (within 36 hrs.) I noticed a real improvement, and by the fifth day was nearly pain-free. I could eat, sleep, and function somewhat again.

Over the last 6 months a bad pressure headache with severe splitting pain behind my right eye and nausea/vomiting steadily increased, until 3 weeks ago it became unbearable. All the usual headache causes like migraine, tumor, eye problems, blood sugar, blood pressure, food allergies, or hormones were ruled out. (Nobody did a lumbar puncture.)

My doctor agreed to try Acetazolamid after I suggested IIH, which I'd just read about online. Amazingly, it seems to be working. Hopefully I can get a lumbar puncture soon to test definitively for IIH. But at least so far Acetazolamid worked to treat these undiagnosed 'IIH-like' symptoms.
Would have been better.... Had I not been on Lamictal. Lamictal was the drug that was causing my seizures to worsen to begin with, so for this drug to do its job to its fullest, I guess I won't know for now how it is. I do know it sure did make my ears ring and nose and hands and feet tingle. A bit of weight loss of course with this type of drug. And you will visit the bathroom a lot especially since I drink a lot of water already being one that is on Zonegran. Didn't seem to play with my mood, and helped a tad with my sleep, as for I had a hard time already being on Lamictal. Overall, having been on so many other drugs before this, this drug had fewer side effects.

Diamox 80% effective on all szs types with minimal tiredness.
The only side effect I have is a pins and needles feeling in my feet every single day I use this med. I use this med for seizures which occur around my monthly period and I cannot express the difference from before. I am thrilled with this med.
Besides the pins and needles side effect, it was great.

I get altitude sickness everytime I go up to local mountains for skiing, hiking, etc. I have taken Diamox servale times as perscribed and it has been a vacation saver. The only side effects are tingling of my fingers and toes and increased urination (mild). Once or twice I still got a slight headache, but nothing to complain about. This has been a great treatment for me. I tried the generic brand and had horrible side effects so I only take the name brand Diamox.
this treatment has been working well with my IIH, but it makes my arms turn red when right after i take my first dose. I learned i had to eat with this medication very quickly, due to the medicine making my stomach upset. overall im pleased with it, just wish my Pharmacy's carried it. it's very hard to locate in my area the quantiy i need.
I took this medication for about 3 years and it helped me but now I am back on it again.
